IPL Therapy

ipl therapy

You may have heard of intense pulsed light, or IPL, as a treatment for dermatological services. But have you ever heard of using IPL therapy for eye treatments? For the last few years, IPL therapy has been used as a treatment for dry eye and now, the Wichita Vision Institute is proud to offer this treatment for our patients.

If you’ve been struggling with dry eye and don’t know what else to do, then maybe IPL therapy for dry eye is the right treatment for you. Call us today to learn more! Dr. Reena Patel and our team at Wichita Vision Institute will be happy to help you.

What Is It?

Intense pulsed light therapy is a common dermatology treatment, which can be used to treat issues such as rosacea, sun damage, and acne scarring. As a treatment for dry eye, it is a groundbreaking approach.

What Can I Expect from IPL Therapy?

Through pulses of light, this liquefies and releases hardened oils that are clogging the meibomian glands. We will place shields over your eyes to protect them from the pulses of light, and a layer of cooling gel is applied to the treatment area. A small device is used to apply the light pulses to the area.

After the treatment, the oil is expressed from the glands, thus restoring oil flow to normality and allowing the glands to work properly again. The procedure is quick and performed in our office, but it may require several treatments, depending on the patient.

Am I a Candidate?

If you suffer from dry eye — dry, red, or fatigued eyes — then you may be a candidate for IPL therapy. IPL therapy offers a more permanent solution than some of the alternative treatments to dry eye. If you’re tired of using eye drops for a temporary solution to the problem, call us today to learn if you’re a candidate for IPL therapy.
