Laser Cataract Surgery

laser-cataract-surgery

As we age, proteins in our eyes can clump together and cause what is clinically known as a cataract, a condition which clouds up the lens of the eye, leading to loss of vision.  Traditional surgery for cataract removal involves multiple incisions which can carry the risk of causing side effects and further loss of vision if performed incorrectly.

Wichita Vision Institute—located in Wichita, Kansas—is proud to provide a more modern approach to cataract removal with Laser Cataract Surgery Procedure, a minimally invasive method for cataract removal that can be safer, quicker, and easier than more conventional techniques.

If cataracts have been making it seem like you’re looking at life through a foggy mirror, contact us at our office in Wichita and ask about Laser Cataract Surgery.

What is Laser Cataract Surgery? What’s the Recovery Like?

Laser Cataract Surgery utilizes a femtosecond laser that directs near infrared light into the lens of the eye.  The energy from the laser breaks the cataracts up into smaller fragments so that they can be removed by the practitioner using a small vacuum.

This is an outpatient procedure, meaning that patients should be able to return home the same day of the treatment.  In order to make recovery as quick as possible, strenuous activity like weight lifting should be avoided because it causes extra strain on the eye. Taking a few days off from work will also help to lessen your recovery time.

Why Choose Laser Cataract Surgery?

More conventional methods for cataract removal often utilize ultrasound frequencies to help break up cataracts for their removal.  The problem with this is that ultrasound can cause additional damage to the eye and cornea.  The femtosecond laser that Laser Cataract Surgery Procedure uses softens up cataracts with greater precision than conventional methods, with much less of chance of doing additional harm to the eye in the process.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Cataract Surgery?

In order to answer this question, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with one of our practitioners.  During this consultation, the practitioner will discuss with you your goals for the treatment and your medical history to search for anything that might complicate the procedure and make it less than ideal for you.  If the practitioner discovers something that restricts you from getting Laser Cataract Surgery, they will discuss alternatives.

Contact us in Wichita, schedule a consultation, and ask whatever questions you may have about Laser Cataract Surgery.  We will do our best to answer them and hope that we can bring you closer to having clear vision.
