LASIK

LASIK eye surgery corrects the refractive errors in the eye that cause vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK stands for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileuses. Over 30 million people have had LASIK worldwide.

Most LASIK patients notice an almost immediate improvement in their vision after surgery; oftentimes, the improvement is so significant that a person no longer needs to depend on glasses or contact lenses to see clearly. Dr. Patel is an experienced LASIK surgeon who uses advanced technology for the most precise results serving the area of Wichita, Hutchinson, Goddard, Kingman, and Valley Center KS.

LASIK Candidates

LASIK is not appropriate for everyone. Suitable candidates should be 18 years of age or older, have a stable prescription, and be free of certain eye disorders such as uncontrolled glaucoma or cataracts. During your free LASIK consultation, Dr. Patel performs a thorough evaluation of your eyes to assess their candidacy for laser vision correction.

Read more about suitable LASIK candidates on our “Am I a LASIK Candidate?” page.

The LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

During LASIK surgery, Dr. Patel makes a small flap on the surface of the cornea and gently folds the flap back; this flap can be made with an instrument called a microkeratome or with a femtosecond laser. She then uses another laser to reshape the cornea. After she has reshaped the cornea so that it has the proper curvature, the flap is repositioned over the exposed tissue. The eye naturally heals itself over time.

Find out more about the LASIK procedure on our frequently asked LASIK questions page.

Blade free LASIK Eye Surgery / All-Laser LASIK

Advancements in LASIK technology and surgical technique have allowed surgeons like Dr. Patel to offer a new way of creating a corneal flap. Traditionally, this step is performed using an instrument called a microkeratome. Dr. Patel now offers a blade-free LASIK experience by using a femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap. Learn more about the bladeless experience on our blade-free LASIK technology page.

Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery

The price of LASIK surgery depends on several factors, including the technology used and the degree of correction required. At Wichita Vision Institute, the cost of LASIK surgery includes surgical fees, facility fees, and follow-up care for a certain period of time after surgery. Learn more about the price of LASIK on our LASIK costs page.

Custom IntraLase LASIK

Custom IntraLase LASIK is a special customized LASIK surgery in which a computer makes an individualized blueprint of each eye. This blueprint is then used to formulate your laser treatment and provide you with personalized treatment for each eye. A femtosecond laser is used to make a thin LASIK flap. A second laser is then used to reshape your cornea.

All servicemen and women in all branches of the U.S. military and NASA are allowed to have LASIK surgery thanks to studies using this technology. Wichita Vision Institute is excited to bring you this customized cutting-edge technology.

Don’t let your current vision keep you from living the active life you dream of — explore your LASIK surgery options today with Dr. Patel. Contact Wichita Vision Institute at (316) 773-6400 or click here to send an email to set up your FREE LASIK consultation.
